St Kitts and Nevis: The prisoner, in an attempt to escape from police custody, caused severe structural damage to the roof of the Joseph Nathaniel France(JNF) General Hospital of St Kitts. The emergency room of the hospital witnessed extreme structural damage on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
The government of St Kitts and Nevis issued the press release and provided the entire information about the incident.
According to the press release, the prisoner was brought to the Joseph Nathaniel France General Hospital of St Kitts and Nevis due to his health complications at around 4: 00 pm. He was admitted to the hospital under police custody for medical treatment.
During the treatment, he tried to escape from police custody. After that, the police officials made efforts to catch the suspect and the process caused structural damage to the hospital. The police of St Kitts and Nevis immediately apprehended the suspect and again took him into custody.
As per the press release, the hospital experienced huge damage, which caused disruptions among the staff and other patients. The process of escape resulted in a busted pipe in the ceiling area. The broken pipe further caused leakage through the roof. It also damaged the supply of water severely.
The Public Works Department and the maintenance staff at the JNF hospital immediately started the work to assess the damage in order to bring relief to staff and patients. They did the necessary emergency repairs to the damaged area for the time being.
Earlier in October, the JNF General Hospital of St Kitts and Nevis also recorded the incident in which one male patient committed suicide. The incident happened on Thursday, October 27, 2022. As per the government, the patient was admitted to the Psychiatric Ward and committed suicide on the premises of the Joseph N France General Hospital.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, also extended condolences to the patients’ loved ones and family.
