St Kitts and Nevis: For the first time, the swim team of St Kitts and Nevis will be participating in the OECS Swimming Competition held in Saint Lucia. The team has departed from the country to participate in the championship.
Premier of Nevis and Leader of Concerned Citizens Movement- Mark Brantley, took to social media and expressed pleasure after hearing the news. He stated that the team had created history as it was for the first time that they would participate in the swimming competition.
“History made as St Kitts and Nevis sends its first swim team to the OECS Swimming Competition in Saint Lucia. Huge congratulations to the youth swimmers and their coaches. Proud day for us all, “said the premier.
He also extended congratulations and greetings to the team and asked them to play well with huge strength.
The Saint Lucia Aquatics Federation (SLAF) will organize the 30th OECS Swimming Championship, which runs from November 11th to 13th. The championships will be held at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Center in Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.
Various teams from the countries Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia and St Vincent, Grenada, and St Kitts and Nevis will participate in the Swimming competition.
In the swimming competition, Zaina Brathwaite is a member of the Sharks swim club and is a great competitor in the sport, always understanding the eye of the tiger, she gives all at training and competition.
She came second at this year’s National short course trials which gained her a place in the 8 and under age group for the 2019 OECS meet
She has been a student at the Montessori school for 6 years and has taken to swimming like a fish in water.
Zaina has one more year in the 8 and under age group and says next year will be hers. Her favorite stroke is freestyle winning the freestyle events at the trials. Zaina is definitely one to look out for in the future.
