The Department of Sports Summer Camp 2023 was officially opened on Monday, 10th July, at the Warner Park Sports Complex of St Kitts and Nevis.

St Kitts and Nevis: The Department of Sports Summer Camp 2023 was officially opened on Monday, 10th July, at the Warner Park Sports Complex of St Kitts and Nevis. Over 200 eager student-athletes registered to participate in either football, cricket, netball, volleyball, golf, swimming, tennis and basketball. 

Minister with responsibility for Sports and the Creative Economy, Samal Duggins, expounded on the camp’s theme, “Educate, Develop, Win”, while encouraging the participants. “Our job as the Department of Sports and, by extension, the government is to facilitate your development, growth and excellence on your behalf. You are the future of this country; you are a representation of what tomorrow may be,” Minister Duggins said.

After having the participants repeat the camp’s theme, Minister Duggins indicated campers should use the period to learn as much as they can, develop their abilities and talents and also win by celebrating the little achievements to gain more. 

The summer camp continues throughout Basseterre this week before moving to rural St Kitts. St Kitts Department of Sports shared the camp dates and venues which are as follows: 

Upcoming camp dates and venues

  • Monday, 17th to Friday, 21st July 2023, the summer camp moves to Cayon and Molineaux. (for campers living between Keys and Saddlers)
  • Monday 24th -28th July 2023, the summer camp moves to Verchilds and St. Pauls (for Campers living between Boyds and Parson Ground)

Registration forms can be collected from the Department of Sports Office located in the Media Center of the Warner Park Cricket Stadium. A $25 registration fee will be collected.

The Ministry of Social Development and Gender Affairs said that the Ministry will be publishing an Annual Calendar of Summer Camp Activities to assist parents/guardians in finding activities to engage youth over the vacation period. 

St Kitts and Nevis also announced the staging of the ground-breaking inaugural Crime Intervention Summer Soccer Camp aimed at combating crime and fostering positive youth development.

The Security Forces United Football Team is, for the first time, launching a unique community policing initiative with a long-term vision through sports in partnership with several soccer coaches from American Colleges and Academies and the United Kingdom.
