St Kitts and Nevis reports 6 new cases of COVID-19

St Kitts and Nevis has now confirmed 6 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health on Monday evening; whereas, 51 cases are active in the country.

St Kitts and Nevis: The twin-island country of the Caribbean suffered a major set-back after enduring community spread of COVID-19 infections. The second wave had a major impact on St Kitts and Nevis, but medical units successfully managed to curb the spread.

St Kitts and Nevis has now confirmed 6 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, said the Ministry of Health on Monday evening; whereas, 51 cases are active in the country. Following the spread, St Kitts and Nevis reported a total of 600 positive cases of coronavirus (Since the beginning of COVID-19) and 546 people are fully recovered with 3 deaths.

The COVID-19 task force has so far conducted over 26,000 COVID-19 tests in St Kitts as well as Nevis and reported 25,698 negative reports. However, St Kitts and Nevis is also among the countries that are expediting vaccine drive in the country with a high number of people getting inoculated against the virus.

St Kitts and Nevis, weeks ago welcomed their first cruise ship in the country, welcoming tourism with strict adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols. Health authorities have issued several safety measures designed to break the chain of the second wave in the country and curb the community spread. The measures include the imposition of curfew, suspension of social and mass events, telecommuting or work from home if possible, in-house dining and non-pharmaceutical efforts including maintenance of physical distancing, wearing of masks, washing or sanitizing hands regularly, and avoiding in-person meetings.

The government has already announced that new measures will be taken out following the drop of COVID-19 spread in the country. Prime Minister Timothy Harris led administration has successfully managed to immunize the population with a record number of vaccine administrations as well as efforts to stop the virus from reaching out to the populations. Health infrastructure in-country has proved to be among the best in the region as related to the others.
