St Kitts and Nevis: St Kitts and Nevis are all set to welcome Sugar Mas 51 as the preparations are underway. Sugar Mas 51 is three months away, and the St Kitts and Nevis Carnival Committee (SKNNCC) under the leadership of Chairperson Shannon Hawley, is busy making final preparations.
The event is slated to go back to its original formal full formal including Jouvert and the Grand Parade. After the scaled-back versions in 2020 and 2021, a renewed sense of excitement is now in the air.
The slogan competition which is now closed, attracted over 200 entries, and an announcement of the winner was held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Registration was already open for all competitions scheduled for Sugar Mas 51. These include the National Calypso Monarch, National Carnival Queen, Soca Monarch, J’Ouvert, Road March, Grand Parade and Panorama, and Fringe Event Organizers, Vendors and Service Providers are also encouraged to indicate their participation by completing the registration documents by Friday, September 9, 2022. Forms are available at skncarnival.com or at the SKNNCC office located in the EC Daniel building on Cayon Street.
Chairperson Shannon Hawley recently met with the new Minister responsible for Carnival, Samal Duggins, and indicated that an organizing committee will be named shortly. Hawley has expressed confidence in the ability of the committee to stage a successful event free of COVID-19 restrictions. She also pointed out the return of all major street activities has been lauded by revelers, vendors, and stakeholders.
After receiving over 200 entries, SKNNCC has chosen the slogan for Sugar Mas 51.
The winning slogan is 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗔𝗦 𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗨𝗚𝗔𝗥 𝗠𝗔𝗦 𝟱𝟭, penned by 𝗭𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗶 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻. A cash prize of $500.00 will be awarded to the successful entrant. She will also be recognized throughout the carnival activities.
The committee extended huge greetings and stated, “Heartiest congratulations to Morton and many thanks to all those who participated.”
