St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew talks about national issues in special interview

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, sat in a special interview during which he talked about the country's most pressing challenges. Particularly, he discussed his concerns about the recent upsurge in violence and crime in the country. He informed the media that he and his administration is working on dealing with the sudden and upsurge.

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, sat in a special interview during which he talked about the country’s most pressing challenges. Particularly, he discussed his concerns about the recent upsurge in violence and crime in the country. He informed the media that he and his administration is working on dealing with the sudden and upsurge.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister informed the media that the government is taking several steps, including: 

  • Strengthening the alternative lifestyle programme, 
  • Reorganising the police commission 
  • Establishing a Deputy Commissioner in charge of assisting with police officer training. 

In addition, Dr Terrance Drew noted that the government is attempting to strengthen the education system by implementing new programmes and ensuring everyone can access computers and the internet.

Prime Minister Drew asserted that those in the government and authorities would grant amnesty to those who comply with the law. At the same time, he urged individuals to rectify their status. He further assured the people through the media interaction that the Defence Force and Coast Guard would get enhancements and funds. 

As the Minister of Finance, Dr Drew received a report on the Development Bank’s forensic audit. Accordingly, he assured the people that the administration is taking action to remedy the problems that the development bank is facing.

The Ministry of Small Business has established a One-Stop centre to assist firms in achieving success. The government is also attempting to enhance health care by modernising facilities and training individuals to help in emergencies, among other measures. The finance secretary has been tasked with preparing a report so business leaders may meet and collaborate to enhance the nation’s administration. 

Prime Minister Terrance Drew further mentioned the historic installation ceremony that the government is hosting in honour of the first female governor-general, Marcella Liburd. The Prime Minister, thus, expressed that he is enthusiastic about the nation’s prospects.

He has also discussed the significance of education and elaborated on the government’s initiatives to enhance it. The government is starting a student loan programme and reviving the laptop programme. The Drew-led government aims to ensure that its citizens have access to gadgets and the internet and are ready for the future. The Prime Minister remarked that the government is dedicatedly investing in education since it is vital to the nation’s future.
