St Kitts and Nevis: PM Terrance Drew outlines three initiatives to strengthen quality healthcare

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, during his second press conference, announced that the government will implement three initiatives to strengthen quality healthcare in St Kitts and Nevis.

He stated that the SKNLP administration has been working efficiently to uplift the healthcare services delivery to citizens, residents, and visitors. 

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, PM Dr Terrance Drew hosted a press conference with the Ministers of Cabinet and talked about various development plans and initiatives of his government. 

While talking about the strengthening of the healthcare system of St Kitts and Nevis, he cited various development plans in the field. 

Outlining the three initiatives in the healthcare field, PM Terrance Drew stated that these plans are as follows: 

• First one is Universal Health Care.

• Second one is the Corporatization of the Joseph N. France General Hospital. 

• Third one is the revitalization of the relationship with the third-party organization. 

Talking about the first initiatives, PM Terrance Drew asserter universal real Health Care remains a priority for the government of St Kitts and Nevis. 

He added that the government of St Kitts and Nevis is geared up to start their Universal Health Care, and they will talk to the citizens and discuss various ways of it. 

PM Terrance Drew further highlighted another measure and stated that the corporatization of the Joseph N. France General Hospital, the premier health institution in the country, will increase its efficiency. The aim of the initiative is to properly manage the affairs of the hospital and improve its management as well. 

Shedding light upon the third measure, PM Drew added that St Kitts and Nevis will also witness the also revitalization of the relationships of the government of the country with the third-party organizations. 

He said that the government of St Kitts and Nevis have been looking forward to strengthening the partnerships with an organization such as CARPHA (the Caribbean Public Health Agency), PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), and several NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) such as PALS (Pediatric Assistance League of St. Kitts). 

PM Terrance Drew asserted that he is pleased with the system changes that were made to address and improve various issues within the health sector.

PM Drew also stated that the promises by his administration during the elections are based on foundational pillars:  

  • Food security
  • Green energy transition
  • Economic diversification
  • Sustainable Industries
  • Creative economy
  • Covid-19 recovery
  • Social protection

He also announced that there are some changes in the ministers of the cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis.
