St Kitts and Nevis: PLP launches 2022 manifesto, announces to implement $3,000 liveable wage

In their manifesto, PLP announced their strategies, range of policies and plans for the different sectors. The candidates of the PLP promised that they would implement the people-centric policies if elected in the election. 

St Kitts and Nevis: The People’s Labour Party (PLP) announced their manifesto for the upcoming election, which is set for August 5, 2022. On Thursday, July 28, 2022, the party launched the manifesto under the theme of “delivering for the people” at Sandy Point in St Kitts and Nevis. 

In their manifesto, PLP announced their strategies, range of policies and plans for the different sectors. The candidates of the PLP promised that they would implement the people-centric policies if elected in the election. 

Manifesto of PLP: 

PLP’s plan for a secure future for families: 

  • Will Increase PAP (Poverty Alleviation Poverty) to $1,000 and cutt VAT from 17 percent to 10 percent
  • Will introduce a $3,000 liveable wage
  • At least $5,000 for every child’s university education
  • Will launch a $500 childcare fund
  • Will build 2000 new homes

Plan to secure future for young people, PLP announced:

  • Will train graduates to gain the experience and skills needed to find a job
  • Will develop a business mentoring programme and incubators to help young entrepreneurs succeed
  • Will develop new sectors and creative industries to create job
  • Will prioritize land distribution to under 35s and building 2000 new homes
  • Will launch the peace, so it never falls apart

Plans to Secure the Future for Women: 

  • A $5000 children allowance for low-income parents
  • Free after-hours daycare
  • On-the-job work experience programme for mothers
  • A new Women’s Training and Development Centre
  • Increasing PAP to $1,000 and introducing a $3,000 liveable wage

PLP’s plant to secure future for seniors: 

  • Will making GAE workers pensionable
  • Will construct several senior citizens’ daycare centres
  • Will roll out national health insurance for seniors
  • Will reduce prices by cutting VAT
  • Will incresae PAP (Poverty Alleviation Programme) to $1000 and introduce a $3000 liveable wage

PLP, through their social media page, noted, “We are protecting and securing the future for our seniors with our contract to make GAE workers pensionable, construct senior citizens daycare Centres, cutting VAT, increasing PAP and introduce National Health Insurance.”

St Kitts and Nevis will witness the election on August 5, 2022, and every political party has outlined their manifesto.

Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, announced that vote PLP and PAP would increase to $1,000 a month and introduce a liveable income of $3,000 a month. He stated, “You are earning less than $1,500. Our government is saying in our new term, and we understand you can’t live on that. Especially with children, especially with the high cost of living. And we will provide you financial support, top it up to $3,000.”
