St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis- Dr Terrance Drew, announced that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week is being celebrated from May 21 to 27 under the theme “Where Emergency Care Begins”, which is quite fitting.
Well-trained EMS staff provide essential on-the-spot medical interventions to stabilise the patients to manage their conditions. EMS administer medications, and they perform life-saving procedures while safely transporting the patient to the hospital.
PM Terrance Drew took to Facebook and shared glimpses of the Emergency Medical Services. He said that the care provided by EMS is often essential to the survival of their citizens.
“For this reason, your Government remains committed to ensuring that our EMT and EMS professionals receive the necessary training to enhance their skill set because EMS is truly Where Emergency Care Begins, “said the prime minister.
Today, as part of their weeklong celebrations, there was an EMS Exhibition at Independence Square. He stopped by to show his support and engage with the EMS staff.
PM Terrance Drew said that tomorrow the school visits will continue. They will be visiting the Verchilds and Cayon secondary schools and the Immaculate Conception Catholic School to educate their children on the roles and functions of EMS.
As part of the EMS Week 2023, emergency medical technicians hosted an exhibition in Independence Square earlier today where they provided a number of services to members of the public free of cost, including blood glucose tests.
EMS Week 2023 runs from May 21 – 27. Other activities held so far for the week included a church service at Reformation Fellowship Church on Sunday, radio appearances and visits to primary and secondary schools.
A special drive-through event is scheduled for Friday, May 26, in the Basseterre area in honour of all EMS workers in the country. The celebration of the Emergency Medical Services will be concluded on Sunday, May 28, 2023, with a special dinner for the professionals. It will feature guests at the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) CUNA Conference Room from 7:00 pm.
