St Kitts and Nevis gets funding from Taiwan for a better COVID-19 response
Taiwan donated a special fund to the Ministry of Health of St Kitts and Nevis for assisting them in purchasing more equipment to tackle the COVID-19 surge on the island.
On Tuesday, November 2nd, the donation that was given will further help the Ministry of Health to expand their capacity of the health sector along with the field hospitals in St Kitts and Nevis.
This move by Taiwan’s Government showed their firm commitment towards the twin-island Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
Michael Chau-Horng Lin, Resident Ambassador of Taiwan to St. Kitts and Nevis, gave the cheque to Minister of Health Akilah Byron-Nisbett. The cheque is a significant donation for the procurement of supplies to equip the field hospitals and also represents the balance of funds after the acquisition of vaccines earlier this year and 2 refrigerators for the storage of the Pfizer vaccine.
During the handover, Ambassador Lin highlighted the outstanding planning for controlling the pandemic in St Kitts and Nevis under the leadership of Prime Minister Harris and Minister. The government had provided a base to the Tourism industry for flourishing during the pandemic. Now that the strengthening of the increased capacity of the field hospitals has become a priority for the government. The government of Taiwan is happy for making this timely contribution to equip better field hospitals redirecting the resources originally allotted to procure the vaccine.
This recent donation is the latest sign of brotherhood between the government of Taiwanese and St Kitts and Nevis since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak globally. Starting with COVID-19 preparedness guidance knowledge, hospital management and medical staff preparedness, the strong and close bilateral cooperation against the virus was later extended to providing essential medical materials and equipment, including hundreds of thousands of masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE), antigen test kits, 4 ventilators, and 20 oxygen concentrators, etc.
