St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew announces to implement series of policy if elected

Dr Terrance Drew Announces: Cost of living subsidy; lowering of the price of gasoline and diesel and; safeguarding the social and economic wellbeing of Kittitians and Nevisians.

St Kitts and Nevis: The leader of St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party- Dr Terrance Drew, announced the range of activities that they will implement for the people by the end of August if elected on August 5, 2022.

Dr Terrance Drew Announces: Cost of living subsidy; lowering of the price of gasoline and diesel and; safeguarding the social and economic wellbeing of Kittitians and Nevisians.

Speaking on Wednesday night in Conaree, the Political Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party unveiled a series of policies that will be implemented by an SKNLP Administration by the end of August, should the SKNLP be able to secure victory at the polls in the August 5, 2022, General Elections.

The Cost of Living Subsidy to be financed by the Citizenship by Investment Programme: “In other words, Ladies and Gentlemen, we shall support and indeed enhance the CBI program, but the first lien on this program going forward shall be a cost of living subsidy for the 48 000 souls living in this Blessed twin-island federation.”

With respect to the price of gasoline and diesel, Dr Drew made the following announcement: “I cannot have a program earning hundreds of millions of dollars and 20 000 vehicle owners cannot afford to put fuel in their cars. We shall determine what is a reasonable, affordable rate for the sale of gas and diesel to motorists….and anything above that figure will have to be borne by the government, and its revenue-generating agencies, until such time as the global price is normalized and we can have market prices that are affordable to motorists.

So, we shall announce, by August 31, what the price of fuel to you, the motorists of this country, shall be, or shall not exceed, for the remainder of the year! You will not pay more than what you are paying now for sure, and already our economic team is telling me that they can return retail prices to, at minimum, March 31, 2022 levels. But I give you the assurance tonight that there shall be a cut in the price of fuel to you and that price cut shall remain in effect for the rest of the year….in spite of whatever happens in the global markets.”

In relation to safeguarding the social and economic wellbeing of Kittitians and Nevisians, the Prime Minister hopeful declared: “The same shall apply to essential food items for all Kittitians and Nevisians. Not all of us eat meat, and not all of us use dairy. I am not about this rice, sugar and flour story. All Kittitians must be able to go to the supermarket and buy their groceries without having to put back essential items.

If we are earning revenue through the CBI Programme, then the first lien on any CBI revenue will, for the next year, be safeguarding the social and economic wellbeing of Kittitians and Nevisians. There is only so much your salaries can do, and I am saying tonight that what your salaries cannot do, the revenue we earn externally will have to make up and subsidize the difference.

We shall tell you by August 31 what you shall pay for the remainder of the year for gas, food, essential clothing items and basic building materials. No more surprises. No more putting back items in the supermarket. What you pay in August shall be what you pay in September, October, November, December and January.”

Dr Drew is expected to make more announcements at a Campaign Rally in Tabernacle on Thursday night.
