St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis- Denzil Douglas, extended congratulations to all awardees of the annual food heroes during the World Food Day 2022 week of activities. 

He added, “CONGRATULATION To All Awardees, Food Security is a Must in St Kitts and Nevis.”

Farmers and fishers in St. Kitts were recognized on Thursday (October 20) evening for their outstanding contribution to food security at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources‘ Annual Food Heroes Prize Giving Ceremony, held at the St. Kitts Eco Park.

At last evening’s ceremony, the 2022 Fisher, Crop and Livestock Farmers of the Year were presented with awards. Awards were presented by Cabinet ministers including Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Samal Duggins; Dr Denzil Douglas; Attorney General Garth Wilkin, and Isalean Phillip.

The Annual Food Heroes Prize Giving Ceremony formed part of the World Food Day 2022 Week of Activities. 

In observance of World Food Day, giving back to Shut Ins and the Less fortunate. The Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the St. Christopher Outreach Center, hosted a food drive earlier today, Friday, October 21, 2022. This initiative is held annually as part of the activities in observance of World Food Day, where the ministry provides for the less fortunate and shut-ins ensuring that we “LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND.”

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Miguel Flemming; Extension Agent Kevin Jeffers; Assistant Secretary, Kyle Flanders; Extension Officer, Renier Ferdinand and other members within the department joined Shobha Chandiramani, Executive Director and Secretary, Sheila Williams of the Operating Committee for the St. Christopher Outreach Center and other staff at the St. Christopher Outreach Center as they welcomed and served wholesome meals to the patrons.

More than a dozen Aquaponics farmers in St. Kitts and Nevis are participating in the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) “Advancing Aquaponics through Business Plan Development in the Eastern Caribbean” workshop which launched on Monday. 

The hybrid training will be conducted in two parts; Part one is the Training of Trainers two-day session focusing on the topics business planning, capital expenditure/capex, operating expense/opex, revenue, cashflow, profit, marketing and the aquaponics calculator, while part two is an interactive session with guest speakers from a financial institution, a supermarket and/or restaurant and aquaponics farmers. It will be staggered into five modules over ten (10) weeks.
