St Kitts and Nevis: The Governor-General Tapley Seaton has declared a ten-day period of mourning with respect to the sudden passing of Ambassador Vance Winkworth Amory. The period of mourning will come to an end on April 30, 2022.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, provided the information during his address to the nation on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
He noted, “During this period, we must reflect respectfully on the life and work of the late Ambassador Vance Amory. He has made a sterling contribution to this Federation as a whole and to Nevis in particular. It would be good and decent to honour his memory with serenity and solemnity in an environment void of agitation and divisive conduct.”
Moreover, in his address, he also speaks about the ongoing turmoil in the Team Unity coalition party. He said that he had taken a keen approach to respond to all the concerns raised by the other partners of Team Unity.
Prime Minister Harris said, “You are all aware that certain misgivings are in the public domain with respect to the issues raised by the partners in Team Unity. I wish to assure you as your Prime Minister that the country remains stable and every effort will be made to maintain the peace and tranquillity of our beloved Federation.”
In addition to that, Dr Harris stated that as a prime minister, he would make sure to create a positive environment in the country.
“I have taken steps as Prime Minister to answer the several issues raised by my partners in the Team Unity coalition. I have responded to those issues in writing. I intend to respect the period of mourning. I call on all political actors and parties to exercise restraint and demonstrate good judgment and respect during this period, “underlined PM Harris.
The body of the late Ambassador Vance Amory is lying in State at Government Headquarters, Church Street, Basseterre, from today, Thursday, April 21, 2022, until 3:30 pm and from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Friday, April 22, 2022.
He said that he encourages members of the public to avail themselves to sign the book of condolences at Government Headquarters during this period.
Additionally, the body will lay in State in Nevis from Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Friday, April 29, 2022, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Theodore L. Hobson Q.C. Court House. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the E. T. Willet Park in Nevis.
