St Kitts and Nevis: AG Wilkin present Anti-Corruption Bill 2023 in National Assembly
St Kitts and Nevis: Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs- Garth Wilkin presented the second reading of the Anti-Corruption Bill 2023 in the National Assembly of St Kitts and Nevis on February 22, 2023. He stated that the piece of legislation will play a significant role in making St Kitts and Nevis a sustainable island state.
Garth Wilkin added that he is very happy to declare loudly and clearly for all to share, Kittians and Nevisians home and abroad, that good governance is finally here. He added that the government of St Kitts and Nevis has been working diligently behind the scenes to develop St Kitts and Nevis into a sustainable island state envisioned by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew.
Attorney General stated that transparency and accountability are becoming a significant part of societal and political DNA. The Anti-Corruption legislation is worked to ensure that public officials operate in a transparent manner in relation to public spending and procurement and in relation to gifts received in the capacity of their public office.
Garth Wilkin also stated that St Kitts and Nevis will move on the path of development once the legislation is passed.
AG Wilkin added that in order to create such revolutionary legislation, they have worked hard and gave several nights and walked alone in the dark night on the lonely path through the raging storm of constant personal attacks from the enemies of a mature democracy.
He said that these sacrifices will benefit generations of Kittians and Nevisians to come, and everything happens for a reason. The advancement of our people is our top priority. This Anti-Corruption Bill, if it receives safe passage, will signal a new day and a better way forward for our people, he added.
The Staff of the Attorney General’s Chambers were thanked for their work in ensuring that the Anti-Corruption Bill, 2023, was ready for a successful second reading before the honourable House.
