Roseau, Dominica: Sports Division of Dominica hosted the Inaugural Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship on Friday, December 16, 2022, at the Cabrits National Park.
The Sports Division in the Ministry of Culture Youth Sports and Community Development on Friday held the Inaugural Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship at the Cabrits National Park.
The Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship witnessed the performance of the Clayvin Pascal and Kenlewis Burton of Castle Bruce Secondary top boys division whilst Jeizel Bazil of Academix and Kerzelle Etienne of Pierre Charles Secondary top girls division.
Seven schools participated in the event and the participating schools were: Pierre Charles Secondary School, Dominica Grammar School, Dominica State College (one student), Portsmouth Secondary School, Academix, North East Comprehensive School and Castle Bruce Secondary School.
The event was held with an aim to cater for male and female athletes in two age categories, those under 15 and under 20. On Thursday, members of the staff sub-committee for track and field made a site visit and site meeting at the Cabrits. Final measurements were done, and the identification of areas for intervention and other logistics were looked at.
The members of the sub-committee were joined by the Sports Officer North, Ellington Sabin and the Sports Coordinator, Trevor Shillingford.
The races were held in two age categories, the Under 15 and Under 20, for both boys and girls.

Earlier, the sports Divison of Dominica hosted the walking at the route for the Cross Country Championship to assess the clearing operations which took place as they ensured the safety of their student-athletes with the staff, Reginald Thomas and Ellington Sabin.
The all-terrain route provides runners with varying experiences. The Secondary Schools Cross Country Championship took place from 9:30 am on Friday at the Cabrits National Park in Dominica.
Dominica has been observing the sports event to encourage the athletes of the country. The sports such as Cricket, Football and Netball were held in the country to increase the sporting spirit.
Sports Division of Dominica also hosted the Parish Independence T10 cricket tournament, football tournament, netball championship, volleyball tournament and Cross Country Championship.
Earlier, only one game of the scheduled two matches was played in the Sports Division Secondary Schools Football Competition on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Benjamin Park in Dominica.
In the U20 Division AcademiX School of learning defeated the Portsmouth Secondary School by 2 goals to 1. Kadeem Moses and Ricardo Leblanc scored for AcademiX. Portsmouth Secondary School’s goal came from an own goal of an AcademiX player.
In the U15 Division, the match between Portsmouth Secondary School and Saint Mary’s Academy was blown off due to Portsmouth Secondary School being unable to fill a team for the game.
Earlier, the Sports Division Volleyball pre competition training continued this morning with another session at the Windsor Park Stadium forecourt, the students of the Convent High School were engaged in training under the guidance of assistant Games Coach at the Division, David Toussaint.
The Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships of Dominica will be held in the first quarter of 2023.
