Castries, Saint Lucia: Soufriere Unites Senior Women’s Team secured the victory in the Saint Lucia Football Association Senior Women’s Tournament on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. The team became the champions of the tournament for the first time.
Saint Lucia Football Association took to Facebook and shared glimpses of the tournament. It added, “Congratulations to Soufriere United Senior Women’s Team on being crowned champions of the SLFA Senior Women’s Tournament for the first time.
In the final preliminary round match played at the Soufriere Mini Stadium on Sunday 19th, March an intense battle with Canaries ensued which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Tanika Bernard shot Canaries into the lead in the 47th min as the half ended 1 – 0. However, on the resumption and backed by a vociferous and supportive crowd, the Soufriere team got into their stride with Mya Cyril equalising in the 78th min.
Despite the pendulum swinging back and forth, neither team was able to break the deadlock resulting in Soufriere emerging overall winner.
Undefeated throughout the competition they topped the table with 19 pts, two points ahead of Canaries, who finished with a total of with a total of 17 points.
The National U 20 team finished third with 16 points. Soufriere pocketed $6,000, Canaries $3,000 and the National Under 20, $2,000. The leading goal scorer was Arnicka Louis of the Under 20 with 22 followed by Chermalyn albert of Soufriere and Khylah Solomon of Canaries with 12 each.
National Senior Men team continuing their in preparation for their upcoming return Concacaf Nation League matches against Anguilla in Anguilla on Friday 24th and against Dominica in Saint Lucia on the 27th March.
In other related news, The Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. will host it fourth C- Licence Course for local coaches starting this weekend.
About 15 local coaches and Technical Directors from Clubs playing in the First and Second Division have registered for this Course.
The Course will run from the 18th to the 22nd of March, will be held at the office of the St. Lucia Football Association Inc. and will be conducted and facilitated by Emmanuel Bellas, Cess Podd and Solomon Alexander
