Social activist Micheleina Charles Hazelle meets young soldiers, terms it unique experience

St Kitts and Nevis: Micheleina Charles Hazelle- an educator and a social activist, shared her experience after meeting with the young soldiers and officers. She termed it a unique experience and showed huge excitement to see them running.

While walking I saw these young soldiers and got excited. So I walking calmly towards them. I want to look and see what deh look like and see if I can fass anything for my stories. So, a commanding officer starts to signal to me. Run run and I am like … well. 

When I reached hearing distance, he asked … “ YOU karn run? I watched him… then he asked “ Can you run two miles in some amount of time… “ at this point I started a hard laugh… cause main know what he troubling me for ehh…

Main send for him… My silent thought was, I could out run you and 90% of your squad… EASY! – bla bla bla … how Good I am at this game.

But I was only laughing – that’s all he could hear.

Then I heard the pride inside of me… So a stop laugh… and said another time we can run this morning is for devotions.

Sometimes we are tempted to show people how skilled we are you willing to prostitute your strengths to performances.

A performative reactions can make you miss PURPOSE.

Not every stage you are called onto requires a performance. Sometimes you can just watch the show. Not because I could outrun him and he called me to compete meant I should show meh self.

 I use to think plaiting, cooking and doing house was for a different kinda woman. I like books and mountain.
