St Kitts and Nevis: Soca Superstar Nailah Blackman is all set to grace the stage of the 25th edition of St Kitts Music Festival. Nailah Blackman is a Trinidadian singer and songwriter who has made a name for herself in the soca genre.

Born into a musical family, Blackman’s grandfather, Lord Shorty, is credited with inventing the soca music style. Her exposure to the sounds and artistry of the calypso and soca traditions from an early age inspired her to start singing at the age of five, and she entered her first Calypso competition just two years later. Her professional career began when she was only 11 years old.

Blackman’s talent extends beyond singing as she is classically trained in voice and several instruments, including guitar, keyboard, and steelpan. Her performance of “Runaway Train” at Movie Towne’s Pixel Play showcase in 2016 garnered much attention and helped to create buzz around her 2017 releases.

Her collaboration with Kes on the song “Workout” became a massive hit that year and took her to the finals of the 2017 International Soca Monarch competition.

In 2018, Blackman released several songs, including “O’ Lawd Oye,” “Sokah,” and “Badishh” (featuring Jamaican dancehall singer Shenseea). Her talent was recognized with several nominations and awards, including a BET Viewers Choice Award nomination for Best New International Act and Groovy Soca of the Year Female at the International Soca Awards in Saint Lucia.

Blackman’s debut EP, “The Reel,” was released in August 2019, featuring the single “Sweet & Loco.” In 2022, she released her very first album, “Teknique.” Her latest collaboration with Vincentian Skinny Fabulous, “Come Home,” has been chosen as the theme song for Vincy Mas 2023.

The Caribbean soca superstar is set to perform on Night 1 (June 22) of the 25th anniversary of the St Kitts Music Festival and fans can’t wait to see her electrifying performance.
