SKN government isn’t transparent about COVID situation: Opposition

Saint Kitts and Nevis: The opposition party of the twin islands, St Kitts and Nevis, has stated that the government is not being sheer about the COVID-19 situation in the nation as the virus cases are swiftly increasing.

The opposition stated that there are rumours about the increase in corona positive cases from the office of Prime Minister, which allegedly began with the advisor Dr Crawford, over 17 positive cases at SCASPA, and several staff members at the JNF Hospital.

“Ten inmates have been tested in prison with about 170 inmates. How is this “robust testing”? Is there a shortage of tests within the Federation? With such a densely populated prison, why only test the persons within one cell?” the opposition added.

St Kitts- Nevis Labour party also questioned on the proper quarantine system for the prisoners and informed that people have complained that they were sent back to their homes because of the contact tracing, but they haven’t gone through any COVID-19 test to check if they are positive or not to the virus.

Questioning on the robust testing of the SKN government, the opposition added many people have stated that over a week of testing, they haven’t obtained the results of their COVID-19 test yet.

“Why has it taken the SKN government so long to implement even a partial lockdown with this vast community spread?” the opposition stated.

Following the statement, the opposition asserted, “Last year, the nation was suddenly shut down under the appearance of disaster management, and we had far fewer cases than we do now. So perhaps the health crisis in the mind of government is minor, in comparison to how their political agenda outweighed the economic implications of a lockdown last year.”

The opposition further asserted that the government had not made any relief plan for the people struggling with employment but is urging the citizens to take a dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

The SKNLP further assured to stand with people of SKN in these disturbing times.
