SKN government imposes 24-hour lockdown for St Kitts 

The government of St Kitts and Nevis government has announced a 24-hour lockdown for St Kitts only, which would be in effect from 1 July 2021 in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 mutant.

Saint Kitts and Nevis: The government of St Kitts and Nevis government has announced a 24-hour lockdown for St Kitts only, which would be in effect from 1 July 2021 in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 mutant. 

The Prime Minister of SKN – Dr Timothy Harris, also informed that the borders would remain open during the 24- hour lockdown time period for the visitors. 

On the decision of opening borders, Attorney General – Vincent Byron asserted that this decision is taken after the success of the passageway lockdown was imposed for the incoming travellers in October 2020. 

He added that the healthcare workers and the port officials of SKN are well-trained and equipped enough to tackle the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the statement, the Attorney General added, “The authorities who are appointed at the ports (sea or airport) would guide the passengers about the COVID-19 protocols and new restrictions.”

Besides this, he noted that the ferry is moving from St Kitts to Nevis, complying with the novel coronavirus health protocols of the government. 

The labs would continue to be open during the time period to conduct RT-PCR testing. The government further advised the passengers travelling to other nations to notify their nearest police station before leaving for the Airport. 

To restrain the spread of the coronavirus, the SKN government had announced a state of emergency which would be in effect till 6 July 2021. 

There are currently 313 active cases of the COVID-19 mutant on the sister islands, while 112 patients have been recovered from the deadly mutant. The island has reported three deaths due to the novel coronavirus. 

The government is also heading towards achieving the target of herd immunity. The timings for the COVID-19 vaccination sites in SKN are as follows- 

  • Monday – 28 June 2021 – 11 am to 4 pm
  • Tuesday – 29 June 2021 – 11 am to 4 pm
  • Wednesday -30 June 2021 – 11 am to 4 pm. 

PM Harris has urged the citizens to follow the COVID-19 protocols and receive their coronavirus vaccine dose as soon as possible.
