Selena Gomez Is Begging Everyone To Vote Today

Selena Gomez started her Election Day by posting a message to her millions of followers on Instagram, imploring those that haven’t to please vote in person today and not doubt the significance their vote could have on the 2020 election outcome.

“Hey guys, I know that many of you have voted, and I’m so proud, and I’m so happy that you did, but there is plenty of other people who haven’t, and I think they don’t plan to,” Gomez started. “So please use mail-in ballot. Please vote in person at this point if you can, especially in my home town like Texas, and Pennsylvania and Florida. Your voice matters so much. People think that it doesn’t matter but other elections have been this close before,” Gomez motioned with her fingers how tiny a margin, “so you have to understand that your voice does matter, and it’s so important and I’m just so thankful that you guys are listening, and I hope that you can get out there and do everything that you can. Please, please vote in person.”

This is the first election Gomez has voted in. She said during her Voting Power Hour appearance in October that she didn’t feel like her voice mattered before since she lives in California, a solidly blue state. “I never felt—and this is so true—and I’m now like admitting it to people, like my vote counts,” she said. “Like, every little thing counts so I just think some people get in their head, like, oh well, what does it matter? And then once I really, really started going in and diving in to this, it’s been all I can focus on.”

Gomez is a co-chair on Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote initiative. While she hasn’t officially endorsed any candidate, she made her distaste for Republican nominee, President Donald Trump, known when on Instagram Live with fellow Biden supporter Timothée Chalamet.
