Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit welcomed Patricia Scotland QC, who is the sixth and first lady Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, to Dominica on Thursday, May 26, 2022.
While expressing pleasure, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit noted, “I was delighted to welcome the Rt. Hon Patricia Scotland QC, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, to Dominica today.”
Prime Minister Skerrit also asserted that Dominica extended full support to Patricia Scotland to remain in the position of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
He stated that Patricia Scotland is a deserving candidate to be in the top position as she has every trait of leadership and the ability to bring significant change and upliftment to the Commonwealth with her great ability and agendas for the position.
PM Skerrit emphasized her work of identifying solutions to the most pressing issues facing member states.

He said, “Baroness Scotland has Dominica’s full backing for retaining her post of Secretary General of the Commonwealth to continue her work of identifying solutions to the most pressing issues facing member states.”
Elections to fill the post will be held during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, in June.
Patricia Scotland also expressed pleasure in conducting a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit and added, “Such a joy to be home! My discussions with Prime Minister of #Dominica were wide-ranging & fruitful.”
She said that they both had discussed various matters of concern, especially the need to boost the field of the digital economy of Dominica and enlarge the private sectors in the country.
Patricia Scotland asserted, “We spoke about how to boost # Dominica’s digital economy & connect governments with the private sector to leverage resources and expertise.”
She noted that Prime Minister Skerrit welcomed our strong partnership and acknowledged the Commonwealth’s support in providing vital technical expertise & networks to help the country build resilience, recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and deal with the impacts of climate change.

Besides this, Patricia Scotland also held talks with Dominica’s Minister for Planning, Economic Development, #ClimateResilience, Sustainable Development & #RenewableEnergy Dr Vince Henderson with our Commonwealth Secretary-General and produced children’s books on sustainable energy & deep sea minerals, as well as my biennial report.

Scotland has been visiting several countries to promote herself for the top position where she is sharing her vision and new agendas for the Commonwealth.
