Schools prepare to host Inter-Primary School Championship in Nevis

The Foreign Minister of SKN and Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley has made the announcement and stated that the administration had made plans to host the "Mini Olympics" in the month of April. He said that various sports gatherings and activities have faced huge halt due to the viral infection of the novel coronavirus for the last two years and ow its time to come out of the pandemic.

St Kitts and Nevis: The annual Inter-Primary School Championship, which is known as one of the most significant events on the island’s calendar, is all set to return in Nevis as the Public and Private schools across the Federation have begun hosting their individual sports meets. 

The Foreign Minister of SKN and Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley has made the announcement and stated that the administration had made plans to host the “Mini Olympics” in the month of April. He said that various sports gatherings and activities have faced huge halt due to the viral infection of the novel coronavirus for the last two years and ow its time to come out of the pandemic. 

Outlining the significance of the event, Brantley asserted, “We really want to have Inter-Primary this year. It is a tack of Nevisian life, and but is the right time that it resumes. Plans are ongoing as we are making strategies to ensure the safety and security of people and also brings back competition, so we are looking forward to restoring that sense of community and friendly sporting rivalry that Nevis island always hosted. 

“So with the Mini-Olympics, we really hope that the country would come back to the normal phase and we be back in swing,” he said.

He further emphasized the significance of sports activities in the life of students and explained that there is a great need for the come back of the students in the sports activities as it will take them on track and facilitate them to be involved in athletics abilities. It has been a two-year wait, but now this wait is over as the country believe that sports are an essential part of our health as they boost our physical as well as mental health. With the sporting activities, to remains always fit, and students get overall development with the sports as it enhances their skills and sharpen their minds, underscored Premie Brantley. 

“So we are very happy that we will see sports again, and I’m sure all of us- the students, the parents, the teachers and principals would understand that this is a development that we all welcome and the fact that the Mondo Track will be utilized fully for the athletic development of our students, outlined Foreign Minister. 

While informing about the schedule of the various sports meet at different schools, Mark Brantley stated:  

  • The School named St. James’ Primary held its sports meet on Tuesday, March 01. 
  •  Joycelyn Liburd Primary will hold its sports meet on Thursday, March 03. 
  • The sports event will be held on March 09 at Thomas Primary. 
  • Elizabeth Pemberton Primary on March 10. 
  • Ivor Walters Primary scheduled the sport meet on March 11, 2022.  
  • Charlestown Primary on March 16, 2022
  • Nevis Academy on March 22, 2022. 
  •  Maude Crosse Preparatory will hold the sports meet on March 29.

All the meets will be held at the Nevis Athletic Stadium, with the exception of St. James’ primary. 

While expressing his pleasure, Eric Evelyn, Minister of Youth and Sports in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA), applauded the younger members of the population and said that sports always enhance the capability of a person.  

The last annual Gulf Insurance Inter-Primary School Championship in Nevis was held in 2019. In the Championship, the Charlestown Primary School won the championship title in Zone A, and Elizabeth Pemberton Primary won in Zone B.
