Saint Lucia U17 basketball team plays match against Dominica at ALBA

Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia Under 17 male student-athlete Basketball team participating in the ALBA Games in Caracas, Venezuela, started their campaign on Wednesday, April 26, 2003, against the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The 14-member team and three officials left the island last week for the Spanish-speaking country. In Venezuela, the team will be under the watchful eyes of Ron Dumurville and Glen Guiste (Coach), and Shauna Dantes (Manager).

Team Saint Lucia’s remaining matches – the following day (Thursday, 27th) at 2.30 p.m. will play host country Venezuela. Saint Lucia’s third match in the tournament will be against Bolivia, on Friday 28th, with jump ball time at noon, while their final preliminary round match will see them take on Nicaragua on Saturday 29th at 10.10 a.m.

The final is scheduled for Saturday 29th from 2.30 p.m. The Saint Lucia team includes – Junior Dupre, Teige Flavien, Arnold Martial, Zahir Leslie, Glen Guiste, Dante Serville, Jovanny Antoine, Joel Desriviere, Phinehas Raymond, Azeem Edwards, and Anthony Alexander.

All roads lead to the Marigot playing field on Sunday April 30 2023 when that community will stage its annual Roseau Valley Youth Expo from 10.00 a.m., the event will run up until 6.30 p.m. According to Youth Worker Nazan Hutchinson who is responsible for the Roseau Valley, the idea is to give the young people from the community an opportunity to come out and showcase their goods and services to the wider public.

For those coming to support this initiative, there will be several local artists in attendance and will be accompanied by a local band.  The Saturday morning Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Development Program continued on April 22, 2023 with another cricket   enhancement and development training session at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground.

The three and a half (3 1/2 hour) long training session took the following format:

* Prayers/ Welcome.

* Warm up activities (catching games). Agility & Flexibility.

* Physical Conditioning.

* Fielding/ Catching and Throwing drills.

* Target bowling.

* Nets.

* Younger participants ages 11 years and under were engaged in game sense in batting, bowling and fielding with target throwing).

* Mini cricket match.

The coaches who facilitated the highly energetic training session were Alton Crafton, Malika Edward with assistance from Kimani Melius and Jeandell Cyril.
