Castries, Saint Lucia: The 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament, sponsored by District Representative Kenson Casimir continued on Saturday, January 28, with two matches in Saint Lucia.
Game #1 was a 30 over a side match played amongst male under 15 players together with female under-19 players. The teams were led by National and Windward Islands Under 15 captain THEO EDWARD and his vice captain JOHNATHAN DANIEL.
THEO EDWARD’S team batting first made 176 for 4 in their allotted 30, overs with skipper; Theo Edward making 58 with 10 fours and 1 six, Tyler Venner 55 not out with 6 fours, Aaron St. Clair 21 not out and 11 to Kensley Paul in Saint Lucia.
The wicket takers for JOHNATHAN DANIEL’S team were; Leon Alexander with 2 for 22 in 6 overs and 1 wicket each to Bjorn Fanis and Jaden Khodra. In reply, JOHNATHAN DANIEL’S team finished on 179 for the loss of 10 wickets with Leon Alexander making an attacking 78 with 12 fours and 3 sixes, Kaylum Thomas 20 not out and captain Johnathan Daniel 13.
The wicket takers for THEO EDWARD’S team were; Aiden Scholar with 4 for 12 in 4 overs, Windward Islands under 19 female player; Cian Felix 3 for 20 in 3 overs, Kensley Paul 2 for 16 in 4 overs and 1 wicket to Jaheem Simeon.
Game # 2 saw the start of the 50 over format for senior teams, which runs concurrently with the 20/20 format. Defending champions GERSON STRIKERS came up against EDWARD BLASTERS.
GERSON STRIKERS batting first and led by a century from Johnnel Eugene made 277 all out in 40.2 overs. Eugene batting with authority made a well played 105, inclusive of 19 fours and 1 six.
Other useful scores came from captain Tyrel Chicot with an attacking 73 with seven fours and five sixes, Lee Solomon 27 and Jaden Elibox 15. The wicket takers for EDWARD BLASTERS were; Caleb Thomas with 4 for 38 in 6.2 overs, Jeandell Cyril with 3 for 25 in 7 overs, Kymani Sexius with 2 for 43 in 7 overs and one wicket to Aaron Joseph.
In reply, EDWARD BLASTERS was dismissed for 143 in 33.4 overs, with Caleb Thomas making 41, Jehan Boodha 33, Stuart Calderon 16 and Stavone Gabriel 15.
The chief destroyer with the ball for GERSON STRIKERS was off spinner Johnnel Eugene with impressive figures of 6 for 34 in 10 overs. The other wicket takers were; Jaden Elibox, Kyle Adonis, Isaiah Jones and skipper Tyrel Chicot with one wicket each.
The man of the match award went to Johnnel Eugene for his outstanding performances with both bat and ball. Eugene made 105 with the bat and picked up six wickets for 34 in 10 overs with the ball.
The tournament continues on Sunday, January 29, with a 50-a-side match between GOODMAN WARRIORS and MELIUS CHALLENGERS from 10:00 am at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
