Saint Lucia to serve as link between British Airways’ service from London to Guyana 

Saint Lucia has been chosen as the connecting destination of British Airways' service between London and Guyana, will accommodate a capacity of 332 passengers.

Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia has been chosen as the connecting destination of British Airways’ service between London and Guyana, will accommodate a capacity of 332 passengers.

The inaugural service commences on March 27, 2023, servicing London, Guyana, and Saint Lucia on Mondays and Thursdays, thereby forging greater partnerships in travel between the two Caribbean nations. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism- Ernest Hilaire took to Facebook and expressed pleasure on a historic day for Saint Lucia and regional connectivity.  

The Saint Lucia Tourism Authority (SLTA), along with the Ministry of Tourism and other stakeholders including the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) were part of a delegation on the inaugural flight from London to Guyana with connectivity through the Caribbean island. 

This twice weekly flight, Mondays and Thursdays, presents new opportunities for the tourism market as well as investment opportunities for both economies. As Guyana’s economy continues on its upward growth trajectory, it is critical that we partner with them to explore export opportunities for the locals to Guyana.

The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of Guyana joined them on the inaugural return leg of the flight with service from Guyana to Saint Lucia onto London. In discussions with her, she is eager to explore all opportunities that will be mutually beneficial to Saint Lucians and Guyanese alike.

Ernest Hilaire said, “The country welcomes this flight and looks forward to its success of it.” 

At approximately 10:04 pm on Monday, March 27, Hewanorra International Airport welcomed British Airways flight BA 2158. The red-carpet scene and ceremony were part of the celebration for this inaugural service from Guyana to Saint Lucia with the airline. 

Aboard were several dignitaries, which included Minister of Tourism, Dr Ernest Hilaire, Chairman of the Tourism Authority, Thaddeus Antoine, Independent Senator and CEO of Hospitality and Tourism Association of the country, Noorani Azeez, Guyana’s Honorary Consul to Saint Lucia Lokesh Singh, special guest Oneidge Walrond, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of Guyana as well as representatives of tourism-related partners in Saint Lucia.

British Airways, the United Kingdom’s official flag carrier has officially commenced flight operations to Guyana with stops in the honeymoon destination, yesterday, March 27. The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce in collaboration with the Cheddi Jagan International Airport hosted an official welcome ceremony.
