SLAF hosted a FINA Swimming Clinic for Officials over the weekend. The objectives of the clinic focused on improving the knowledge of participants in the various areas of officiating swim meets, whether local, regional or international.

Areas covered included but were not limited to:

· Competitive Management (FINA Standards)

· Competitive Strokes (The fundamentals of officiating all strokes)

· Situation Resolutions

· Officials’ Decision making

Twenty-one persons participated in the clinic. The participants completed the clinic by displaying their competency through a mock swim meet simulation and an examination.

The clinic was conducted by Sonia O’Neal, from Barbados, who is a well renowned FINA world class Meet Official with over 12 years of experience in the field of officiating. Her officiating repertoire at swimming championships includes CARIFTA, CCCAN, CANOC Games, PAN AM Games, Commonwealth, FINA World Championships and the Olympics.

O’Neal is also slated to be the Meet Referee for the upcoming 30th OECS Swimming Championships to be held here in St. Lucia from November 11 – 13, 2022.

The participants were enthused and displayed teamwork throughout the clinic. A special thank you to FINA and Mrs. O’Neal for making this clinic a success. We would like to extend our gratitude to the swimmers who participated in the mock swim simulation. SLAF would also like to thank Dr. Diane Worrell and the staff of the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre for hosting the practical sessions.
