Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) emerged champions of the 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Schools Under 16, 40 Over cricket tournament played on Tuesday, June 27, at the Gros Islet playing field.

In the tournament’s Grand Finals which was affected by rain, the SLSA continued their unbeaten run in the tournament defeating St. Mary’s College (SMC) for the second time, comfortably by 94 runs.

Batting first after being put in by SMC, SLSA was led by a magnificent century from the Windward Islands under 15 Captain Theo Edward made 247 for 3 in their quota of 27 overs.

Edward batting with great command made a sparking 142 inclusive of 12 fours and 13 sixes, Zinakki Louis 44, and Sheldon Willie 11 not out. Bowling for SMC, Xhan Riviere picked up 2 for 80, and Dante Eugene with 1 wicket.

Chasing 248 for victory, SMC were restricted to 153 for 8 in their allocation of 27 overs.

National Under 15 player, Johnathan Daniel led the scoring with 41, Kanil Nelson 19, Tyler Venner 18, and Dante Eugene 15, the main contributors with the bat.

Bowling for SLSA, Hervon Jn. Charles 3 for 19, Nathaniel Joseph 3 for

33, and 1 wicket each to Zinakki Louis and Theo Edward (captain). The Northern Cluster Grassroots/ Ministry of Youth Development and Sports/ Gros Islet Community/ After-school Cricket Training continued on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Beausejour Indoor Facility. 

Earlier, At the Gros Islet Playing Field, the Saint Lucia Sports Academy secured a comfortable 152-run victory over Leon Hess Comprehensive.

Due to the recent inclement weather experienced, the T-20 X-PLOSION will now start on Friday June 30 at the Gros Islet Playing Field as per fixtures.

The game previously scheduled for Thursday, June 29 will be rescheduled to a date to be announced.
