Saint Lucia: SMMA hosts water quality public sensitization fair

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports, and Transport wishes to inform the General Public that the West Coast Road between the existing Cul-De-Sac Bridge and Massy Stores (Cul-De-Sac Supermarket) will be reduced to a single lane on Mondays to Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from October 10, 2022 to October 29, 2022.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Ministry of Agriculture has been collaborating with the Soufriere Marine Management Agency (SMMA) of Saint Lucia, to address water quality issues in Soufriere’s watershed and bay through strengthening policies, monitoring water quality, and public sensitization.

The recently-held Water Quality Awareness Public Sensitization Fair brought together many sector agencies to demonstrate the effects of water quality on their organizations and the benefits of good water quality to students and the general public.

Parliamentary Representative for Soufriere, Emma Hippolyte emphasized the importance of community involvement in water quality protection as it directly impacts their individual lives.

The Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Rural Development, Hon. Alfred Prospere, said the onus is on the public to take time to consider how important water resources are, and take action to protect water quality as it directly impacts agricultural production.

He added that initiatives to strengthen water quality will continue as the ministry proceeds with a series of actions to aid Saint Lucia’s natural resource preservation efforts.

Earlier, the Department of Infrastructure, Ports, and Transport wishes to inform the General Public that the West Coast Road between the existing Cul-De-Sac Bridge and Massy Stores (Cul-De-Sac Supermarket) will be reduced to a single lane on Mondays to Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from October 10, 2022 to October 29, 2022.

Traffic management measures will be implemented to control the alternating flow of traffic through this area. This single lane operation is necessary to facilitate the construction of the new junction between the byroad, located to the north of Massy Stores (Cul-De-Sac) and the southern approach road of the new Cul-De-Sac Bridge.

Motorists are asked to please be guided by the signs and flaggers which will be placed along the road. Delays should be expected during the undertaking of these works.

The Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport requests your continued cooperation and patience during the construction works and apologises for any inconvenience caused.
