Saint Lucia secures third place in online intercontinental prison chess championship

A team of four male inmates at the Bordelais Correctional Facility participated in the 13th October 2022 event, placing third in group 7, against teams from Argentina, El Salvador, Uruguay, Ecuador and Trinidad and Tobago.

Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia secured third place in the online intercontinental prison chess championship. It was their first showing, but inmates at the Bordelais Correctional Facility placed 3rd following participation in the Online Intercontinental Prison Chess tournament.

A team of four male inmates at the Bordelais Correctional Facility participated in the 13th October 2022 event, placing third in group 7, against teams from Argentina, El Salvador, Uruguay, Ecuador and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Saint Lucia Chess Federation started their Chess in Prisons program in May of this year, which was well received by the inmates and administrators at Bordelais.

The Intercontinental Online Prison Chess Championship kicks off. Saint Lucia was group 7 with Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador, Canada, Turks and Caicos, and El Salvador.

The inmates at Bordelais Correctional Facility expressed their gratitude to be able to represent their country, and to do well in such a short time.

Odsan Combined School to embark on study, to test the impact of chess on the math grades of students. The principal Miss Pierre is committed to using chess to positively influence the students at Odsan and in the community. Chess will be include in the curriculum and as an afterschool activity.

The Soufiere Youth and Sports Council extended congratulates these young men for their dedication in getting this far in the ongoing BlackHeart tournament.

They are thankful to every one of our players for representing Soufriere with such vigor. Though they put up a good fight, they lost to La Clery with a final score of 2-0.

Huge shout out to the Soufriere Football League, coaches and technical team who ensured that the players were adequately prepared for their matches.
