Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, gave a keynote address at the opening ceremony of the 43rd Regular CARICOM Heads of Government Meetings.
On Sunday, July 3, 2022, he traveled to Suriname with his colleague Prime Ministers to attend the 43rd Regular CARICOM Heads of Government Meetings.
In his address, PM Pierre outlined that when he was elected as Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, he came in on a promise to be transparent, to be a listener, to be democratic, and to practice as much as possible the principles of Servant Leadership.
He added, “I have pledged to be guided by the principles of humility, transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and fairness to all and to put the development of people above everything else.”
Prime Minister Pierre stressed that they would caucus on a number of important and urgent issues, including but not limited to citizen security, economic cooperation and climate change.
He said that he looks forward to working together to improve the lives and livelihoods of Saint Lucians and the people of the Caribbean Community, especially in these challenging times.
While outlining his plans for the country, PM Pierre asserted that he pledged to use his best efforts to eradicate corruption at all levels.
Colleagues, as it is for his domestic political life in Saint Lucia, so he believes it should be for CARICOM.
“As we strengthen our democracies forty to sixty years after independence, let us all commit ourselves to the principles of good governance, constitutional reform, transparency and accountability, and let us strive to make this region the freest, most democratic and best-governed part of the universe, all in the best interest of the people of the region we have been called to serve,” PM Pierre remarked.
Highlighting his dream for CARICOM and adding that his dream is for a CARICOM that never forgets that the only reason why everyone has committed themselves to public life is to serve the people and so they must put the people first in all that they do.
