Saint Lucia: PM Philip J Pierre to lay papers in Sitting of House of Assembly

Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, will be laid the papers in the Sitting of the house of Assembly, which is set for Tuesday, August 9, 2022

Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, will be laid the papers in the Sitting of the house of Assembly, which is set for Tuesday, August 9, 2022. Philip J Pierre, who is also Minister for Finance, Economic Development and the Youth Economy, for the Public Service, Home Affairs, Labour and Gender Affairs, and the Honourable Minister for Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs.

The following Bills are down for consideration:

1. Income Tax (Amendment)

2. Public Debt Management

3. Security Interest in Movable Property

4. Special Prosecutor

Tuesday’s Sitting is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m.

The Sitting of the Senate is scheduled for Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 10

The Philip J. Pierre Administration is committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring Saint Lucia’s communities and neighbourhoods are safe for residents and visitors to enjoy.

The Firearms Bill has been strengthened to give the Judiciary additional latitude to put away gun crime offenders longer and impose higher cash penalties on criminals convicted of firearm offences.

The government of Saint Lucia also announced tougher penalties for Gun Crimes. 

  • Indictable firearm offences can attract 25-yea prison sentences and XCD 50,000 fines
  • A minimum XCD 30,000 fine for unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession.
  • The court can impose a minimum 10-year prison sentence for summary firearm offences.
