Saint Lucia: PM Philip J Pierre to attend Agri-Investment Forum and Expo II in Trinidad

The event is being convened under the theme “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation and Investment” and serves to build on the discussions, initiatives, and outcomes from the first Agri-Investment Forum and Expo held in May 2022 in Guyana.

Castries, Saint Lucia – Prime Minister of Saint Lucia Philip J. Pierre is scheduled to attend the Agri-Investment Forum and Expo II scheduled to take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago from August 19th to the 21st, 2022.

The event is being convened under the theme “Transforming Agriculture through Innovation and Investment” and serves to build on the discussions, initiatives, and outcomes from the first Agri-Investment Forum and Expo held in May 2022 in Guyana.

Prime Minister Pierre, along with other CARICOM Heads of Government recently renewed their commitment to develop and invest in agriculture as a means of realising the goal of reducing the Member States’ Food Import Bill by 25% by 2025.

Thus, the Forum is expected to facilitate discussions on achieving the region’s goals whilst combating the myriad of global challenges including Food Insecurity, Rising Food Prices, Inadequate Transportation, Trade Barriers, and the Role of Women and Youth in Agriculture.

PM Philip J Pierre departed from Saint Lucia on Thursday, August 18th. In his absence, Moses Jn. Baptiste will reamin the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia until Sunday, August 21st, 2022.

Earlier, the government of Saint Lucia paid homage to a distinguished Saint Lucian who has made indelible contributions to nation-building and pioneered new horizons for future generations.

Sir Julian’s political ascent began in 1971 when he was appointed Mayor of Castries. Sir Julian became Political Leader of the Saint Lucia Labour Party in 1984 and in 1987 he went on to win the Gros-Islet seat during the General Election cycle of that same year. He was reelected in 1992.

He was also Saint Lucia’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1998 to 2001. Sir Julian founded and was the Chairman of the Standing Conference of Popular Democratic Parties of the Eastern Caribbean (SCOPE). He also co-founded Saint Lucia National Trust and served as its chairman for almost two decades.
