Saint Lucia: PM Philip J Pierre observes international day for people of African Descent
Castries, Saint Lucia: Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, joined the celebration of the triumphs of people of African Descent in the country, the Caribbean and across the globe.
Through his Facebook page, he expressed pleasure on occasion and noted, “On this occasion of the second observance of the International Day for People of African Descent, in the seventh year of the United Nations Decade for People of African Descent, I am pleased and proud to join in celebrating the triumphs of people of African Descent in Saint Lucia, the Caribbean, and the world over.”
PM Pierre added that this day for People of African Descent is another for deep introspection as to where we are today, at home, across the regions, and around the world.
He mentioned that today, more people of the island are learning who we are and where they came from, who the Freedom Fighters and Emancipation Heroes were. More people know today that the Freedom Fighters, the famous Neg Mawon, defeated the British in the Battle of Rabot in Soufriere — and banned Slavery across the island from 1795 to 1796.
“We have dedicated a memorial to our esteemed lady freedom fighter from Dennery, Petronille; and yesterday we celebrated La Woz in a new light in Castries, “said the prime minister.
PM Pierre added that Saint Lucia also continues to support CARICOM‘s quest for Reparations from Britain for Slavery and Native Genocide, and they welcome the African nations showing interest in joining us in this common quest of mutual interest.
“Fellow Saint Lucians, my appeal to all of us at home and abroad today is to make the very best of what today offers – and let’s strive forever to Make Every Day a Day for People of African Descent. 429Joachim Andre Henry, My Summer Property Ltd. St. Lucia Real Estate Service and 427 others, “said the prime minister.
