
Castries, Saint Lucia: The Saint Lucia National Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc presented cheques amounting to EC$90,555.35 to five of the National Sports Federation. The presentation took place at the SLOC Headquarters in La Clery.
The Saint Lucia Football Association had the biggest chunk, $55,000.00. The cheque was collected by Project Officer Erastus Augustin. The financial assistance will go towards Saint Lucia national men’s senior team as they continue preparation for the Gold Cup.
Saint Lucia won all of their home and away matches versus Anguilla and the Commonwealth of Dominica senior men’s football teams. Hilary Dalson was the Saint Lucia Boxing Association (SLBA) representative; he received $19,700, 00 on behalf of the SLBA for the recent staging of the Champion of Champions Boxing tournament, which Saint Lucia won.
Team Saint Lucia captured five gold, nine silver, and two bronze. The Saint Lucia Cycling Association (SLCA) was represented by Jason Tameh, who received $6675.00 on behalf of the SLCA and has commenced a series of cycling races.
According to the SLOC President, “Based on our knowledge, they have started the series already, and upon completion, they are supposed to submit to the SLOC the necessary registration and the necessary information, and in turn, the SLOC will provide the other 50 per cent of assistance to complete the series of events”.
The Saint Lucia Bodybuilding and Fitness Association was represented by its President, Jacqueline Trim, who collected $5000.00 for administrative affairs. Velica Augustin represented the Saint Lucia Volleyball Federation (SLBF), who received $4180.35 on their behalf. The financial assistance will go towards the senior men’s 3×3 basketball team in preparation for a tournament in El Salvador in June.
Meanwhile, SLOC President Alfred Emmanuel reminded the members present when he said, “We also want to remind members, the SLOC Inc have an obligation to account and account in every transparent manner to our funding agencies and as such we demand likewise in return. That is how we can ensure that the necessary funding remains coming in”.
“Therefore, let me remind members that the necessary report along with the accounting form and the necessary photos and video clips of the action undertaken must be submitted to the SLOC within seven (7) days of completion of the event”.
“Persons are happy to receive the assistance, and likewise, we would be extremely pleased for persons to observe the timeline to submit the necessary reports”. Emmanuel noted.
