Castries, Saint Lucia: Leon Hess Comprehensive secured a 4-wicket victory against the Saint Lucia Sports Academy in the 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary Schools Cricket Tournament on Monday, March 6, 2023.
The 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary Schools 50 Over Cricket Tournament continued on Monday, March 6, with two matches.
Victories were recorded for LEON HESS COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY OVER THE ST LUCIA SPORTS ACADEMY and ST MARY’S COLLEGE OVER STANLEY JON ODLUM SECONDARY.
At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Leon Hess Comprehensive enjoyed a hard-fought 4 wicket victory over the Saint Lucia Sports Academy. Saint Lucia Sports Academy batting first in a game reduced to 40 overs a side made 176 for 8 in 35 overs with captain Theo Edward making a well played 87 inclusive of 13 fours and 2 sixes and 30 runs each to Kensley Paul and Ashton Alexander.
The wicket takers for Leon Hess Comprehensive were, leg spinner Leon Alexander with 3 for 28 in 8 overs, Tori Hippolyte 2 for 32 in 5 overs and 1 wicket each to Isaiah Jones and Aaron St Clair.
In reply, Leon Hess Comprehensive got to their target finishing on 178 for 6 in 34 overs with Jewel Simon making a valuable contribution of 46, Aaron St Clair 33, captain Khan Elcock 24, Tori Hippolyte 20 not out, Tristan Scholar 13 not out and Leon Alexander 10.
The wicket-takers for the Saint Lucia Sports Academy were, Sheldon Willie with 2 for 23 in 6 overs, Nathaniel Joseph 2 for 33 in 4 overs and 1 wicket each to Zanaki Louis and captain Theo Edward.
At the Mindoo Philip Park, St Mary’s College registered a 167 run victory over Stanley Jon Odlum Secondary. St Mary’s College taking first strike, made 273 for 8 in their allotted 39 overs with half centuries from Nayo John, Jaden St Martin and Cleanus Jules.
Nayo John made 57 with six fours, Jaden St Martin 55 with four fours and two sixes and Cleanus Jules 54 with seven fours. Other useful scores came from, Zhanni Joseph 18, Yulieski Gustave 16 and captain Johnathan Daniel 14.
The wicket takers for Stanley Jon Odlum Secondary were, Dean Jay Louis 2 for 47 in 9 overs, Alfred Hippolyte 2 for 69 in 9 overs and 1 wicket each to Deornarli Auguste and Emmery Mathurin.
In reply, Stanley Jon Odlum was dismissed for 107 in 23 overs with Deshawn Polius making 29 and Nikki Ferdinand 27. The wicket-takers for St Mary’s College were, Yulieski Gustave with 3 for 7 in 2 overs, Kanil Nelson 3 for 10 in 3 overs and 1 wicket each to Nayo John and Tyler Venner.
RESULT: ST MARY’S COLLEGE WON OVER STANLEY JON ODLUM BY 167 RUNS.
The tournament continues on Tuesday March 7 with two scheduled matches. Entrepot Secondary plays Castries Comprehensive at the Mindoo Philip Park and Babonneau Secondary comes up against Sir Ira Simmons Secondary at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Both matches are due to start at 10:00am.
