Castries, Saint Lucia: LEON HESS COMPREHENSIVE SECONDARY ARE THE CHAMPIONS of the 2022 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary School 40 Overs Under – 15 Cricket Tournament.
Leon Hess, Comprehensive Secondary School players, run onto the pitch as their batsmen made short work of the target of 94 set by Saint Mary’s College in the Finals of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports – Saint Lucia 40-overs Under-15 Secondary Schools Cricket Tournament. The MYDS congratulates both teams on reaching the finals.
In the tournament’s Grand Final held on Thursday July 7 at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, Leon Hess Comprehensive recorded a comfortable seven-wicket victory over St Mary’sMary’s College.
Taking first knock, St Mary’s College was dismissed for 93 in 32.2 overs with Tyler Venner 18 the only batsman to reach double figures.
The wicket-takers for Leon Hess Comprehensive were, Leon Alexander with 3 for 24 in 7 overs, captain Aaron St Clair 2 for 6 in 5 overs, Bjorn Fanis 2 for 8 in 6 overs, Aiden Scholar 2 for 12 in 7 overs and 1 wicket to Ryan Marshall.
Set a target of 94 for victory and the championship, Leon Hess Comprehensive finished on 94 for 3 in 20.5 overs with their skipper Aaron St Clair making an attacking 47 not out, Bjorn Fanis 23 and Zachary Gokool 13.
The wicket-takers for St Mary’sMary’s College were, Nayo John, Dante Eugene and Nikile Alfred with 1 wicket each.
At the brief closing ceremony chaired by Kirby Allian, meddles and trophies were presented to the tournament’s champions and runners up.
Theo Edward and Sheldon Willie of the St Lucia Sports Academy, were both recognized for scoring the most runs and taking the most wickets respectively in the tournament.
Minister of Youth Development and Sports Honorable Kenson Casimir was at hand to address the young cricketers.
Also present from the Ministry of Sports were Permanent Secretary Miss Caroline Eugene, Director of Sports Mr Jim Xavier, Mrs Isabel Marquis, Miss Saralee Williams and Mr Dane Maglore.
