Castries, Saint Lucia: The 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Secondary Schools 50 Over Cricket Tournament in Saint Lucia continued on Friday, March 10, with two matches. 

Victories were recorded for St. Mary’s College over Corinth Secondary and Choiseul Secondary over Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School in Saint Lucia. 

At the Gros Islet Playing Field, St. Mary’s College got the better of Corinth Secondary, winning by 39 runs. St. Mary’s College batting first after winning the toss in a match reduced to 40 overs, got to 203 for 5 wickets in 33 overs, at the cut-off time. Captain; Johnathan Daniel led the batting for SMC with a well played half century making 90, Tyler Venner 31 not out and Cleyanus Jules 29.

The wicket takers for Corinth Secondary were Jeandell Cyril with 2 for 45 in 9 overs, Jaheem Simeon 2 for 23 in 5 overs and 1 wicket to Jaedon Khodra. In reply, Corinth Secondary was restricted to 164 for 7 in their allotment of 34 overs, with Shakim Jacobie scoring 33 not out, Jeandell Cyril 27, Messi Gerson 20, Jamal Phillip 18 and Roystan Fannis 13.

Bowling for St. Mary’s College, Zhanni Joseph 3 for 14 in 7 overs, Tyler Venner 2 for 22 in 7 overs and 1 wicket each to Yuneiski Gustave & Nayo John in Saint Lucia. 

RESULT: ST. MARY’S COLLEGE DEFEATED CORINTH SECONDARY BY 39 RUNS in SAINT LUCIA. 

At the Piaye Playing Field, in a match up between Choiseul Secondary and Vieux Fort Comprehensive, after winning the toss and electing to bat in a match reduced to 45 overs, Choiseul Secondary was bowled out for 212 in 36.4 overs. For Choiseul Secondary, Sherquan Mitchel top scored with 48, Denzie Jn. Paul 33 and Jude Joseph 24.

The wicket takers for Vieux Fort Comprehensive were Kaylan Neptune with figures of 4 for 43 in 7 overs, Josan James; 2 for 27 in 8.4 overs and 1 wicket to Garette Alphonse.

In the chase, Vieux Fort Comprehensive was dismissed for 116 in 26.1 overs, with Danel Naitram making 32, Micah Naitram 19 and Kaylan Neptune 16, the only batters to reach double figures. 

With an impressive all-round performance, Sherquan Mitchel also led the bowling for his team, taking 4 wickets for 18 runs in 5.1 overs. Jeanille William with 2 for 8 in 4 overs and Jude Joseph with 1 wicket were the other wicket takers for Choiseul Secondary.

RESULT: CHOISEUL SECONDARY DEFEATED VIEUX FORT COMPREHENSIVE BY 96 RUNS IN SAINT LUCIA.
