The Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. Div 1 and 2 football competition kicked off on Thursday, 29th June 2023, with doubleheaders at the Dennery and Micoud Playing Fields, respectively.
In the first game played in the Div. 1 competition at Dennery, B1 FC and 1987 All-Stars played to a goalless draw.
The second game played featured a northern derby, with Northern United edging out GMC 1 – 0 with a goal from Curtishio Stephens in the 16th min. In the evening’s opener at the Micoud Playing Field of the Div. 2 competition, Young Stars and Ti Rocher played to an exciting 3 – 3 draw.
Scoring for Piton Travel Young Stars were Jaime Prospere 25th, Garvin Reggie 52nd and Kenvie Polius in the 70th min. Ti Rocher got their goals from Jason Lewis, a penalty in the 49th min, Andre Joseph 62nd and J’ Ourilen Marcellin in the 5th min of added-on time.
In the evening’s final game, Diamond Ballers and Faith United played to a thrilling 2 – 2. Scoring for Diamond Ballers were Dhirv Jn. Baptiste and Alson David in the 79th and 86th min, respectively. Jassie James scored for Faith in the 44th and 59th min.
The Caribbean Football Union has released the match schedule for the 2023 Girls’ Under 14 Challenge Series in Antigua & Barbuda from August 18 – 27, 2023.
This year twenty (20) teams will participate in the highly anticipated tournament in the land of three hundred and sixty-five (365) beaches. The tournament will see the twenty teams divided into two tiers (Tier I & II) with 14 national teams from around the Caribbean competing in Tier II while six (6) teams will do battle in Tier I for the coveted Challenge Series trophy.
St. Lucia will be participating in Tier 2 Group C together with Curacao, Guadeloupe, Martinique and St. Kitts and Nevis. St. Lucia opening game is against St. Kitts and Nevis.
In other related news, matches which were scheduled in the SLFA Inc. Div. 1 and Div. 2 football competition, for Tuesday 27th June at the Dennery and Micoud Playing Field have been postponed because of the inclement weather.
Meanwhile, two matches are scheduled in the Marchand Football League Normalisation Committee Arnold Clouden Memorial Senior Men football competition at the Marchand Grounds on Wednesday 28th June.
