Castries, Saint Lucia: Texas senior Julien Alfred from Saint Lucia added the 200m title to the 60m crown she already won at the Big 12 Indoor Championships at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock Texas.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games 100m silver medallist, who ran 6.97, a new personal best and NCAA and national record, to win the 60m earlier on Saturday, showed the same awesome form to set a new meet record in the 200m as well.
The 21-year-old ran 22.26, another personal best, to win comfortably ahead of teammate Lanae Thomas (22.63) and Texas tech’s Rosemary Chukwuma (22.68). Jamaican Texas sophomore Kevona Davis was fourth in 22.76.

Alfred clocked in at an impressive 6.97 seconds in the final, improving upon her previous record of 7.00 seconds set earlier this month.

“Congratulations to our very own Julien Alfred who completed the 60M Sprint at the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Championships in 6.97 seconds. The championship is taking place in Lubbock, Texas, “said the deputy prime minister.
He added that this new time breaks her previous record set earlier this month of 7.00 seconds. Her impressive achievement has now made her the 8th fastest sprinter in history while also breaking the NCAA collegiate record three times in a row.

She also won the Big 12 Indoor Championships 200m in 22.26 seconds, the 4th fastest time in the world. As reported by the official page of the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, “Julien’s impressive achievement makes her the 8th fastest sprinter in history while also breaking the NCAA collegiate record three times in a row.”
