Saint Lucia initiates 2022 Summer Cricket Camp with “Cricket Match Day 1”

The Northern Cluster Grassroots/ Ministry of Youth Development and Sports 2022 Summer Cricket Camp (Day #12) took place on Monday, August 8, with "Cricket Match Day 1" at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Northern Cluster Grassroots/ Ministry of Youth Development and Sports 2022 Summer Cricket Camp (Day #12) took place on Monday, August 8, with “Cricket Match Day 1” at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Two high-level matches were played among campers. Game #1 among players 15 years and under together with females under 19 players and Game #2 among under 19 male players together with senior players.

In game #1, the teams were led by National Under 19 player KHAN ELCOCK and Windward Islands Under 19 Female player SKYY SMITH.

Elcock’s team batting first in a game reduced to 20 overs a side made 145 for 4 in their allocated overs, with Isaiah Jones making 68 not out with 11 fours and 1 six and skipper Khan Elcock 55 with seven fours and four sixes.

The wicket takers for Smith’s team were Jaheem Simeon with 2 for 24 in 4 overs and one wicket to Darvin Ford. In reply, Smith’s team close their inning on 112 for 6 in their 20 overs with Darvin Ford making 52 not out with eight fours and two sixes and 11 each to Leon Alexander and captain Skyy Smith.

The wicket takers for Elcock’s team were Sheldon Willie with 3 for 14 in 3 overs and one wicket each to Bjorn Fanis, Christian Peter and Khan Elcock. In game #2, the teams were led by National Under 19 players RYAN GOODMAN and KHAN ELCOCK.

Goodman’s team batting first made 176 for 9 in 25 overs with Royce Paul making 57 inclusive of 2 fours and seven sixes, Dane Edward 47, Johnathan Daniel 17 and Leon Alexander 10.

The wicket takers for Elcock’s team were leg spinner Isaiah Jones with 5 for 18 in 3 overs, Tristan Normal with 2 for 24 in 4 overs and one wicket each to Joshua Cepal, Keithan Charlemagne and Ashton Alexander.

In reply, Elcock’s team finished on 125 for 8 in 25 overs with Joshua Cepal making 44, Roystan Fanis 20, Isaiah Jones 13 and 11 each to Lee John and Ashton Alexander.

The wicket takers for Goodman’s team were Patrick Whittaker with 4 for 23 in 4 overs, Bolton Sayers 2 for 9 in 3 overs and one wicket each to Royce Paul, Leon Alexander, Rene Montoute and Dane Edward.

The Massacre Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Complex was commissioned on Sunday. Costing around 2.5 million dollars, the facility aims at encouraging sports involvement among the youth and is another example of the government’s commitment to the upliftment of sports.
