Castries, Saint Lucia: The curtains came down on the Saint Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Inc. Zonal Boys Club Under 17 competition which took place on Sunday, 16th April 2023, with two exciting matches at the Technical Center in Grande Riviere, Dennery.

In a final preliminary match interspersed by pulsating exchanges, New Generations (Babonneau) averted the numerous challenges to emerge decisive winners in an epic encounter. Throughout the exhilarating encounter, the pendulum swung precariously back and forth with both teams guilty of squandering numerous scoring opportunities.

But when the dye was cast it was New Generations (Babonneau) who emerged triumphant with a hard-fought 2 – 1 victory over their worthy opponents Black Panthers (Soufriere). This they did with a double strike from Ace player Baggio Edward first with a penalty in the 42nd minute and the clincher in the 81st minute.

Previously Black Panthers had equalized with an own goal from Brenton Fanis in the 48th minute. Meanwhile, for the Third Place Silverware Northern United (Gros Islet) defeated Valley Soccer (Castries) 3 – 1. The goal scorers for Northern United were Nathaniel Leo in the 8th and 69th minute and Kenrick Antoine in the 4th minute.

Mervin St. Romaine pulled one back for Valley Soccer via a penalty in the 35th minute. The 2023, SLFA Inc’s President Cup kicked off on Tuesday 18th April, with double headers at the Dennery Playing Field and Desruisseaux Playing Field respectively.

Over at the Dennery Playing Field, Nyabinghi FC defeated Garrand FC 4 – 0, with goals from Christopher St. Catherine 16th, O’Neil Alexander 58th, Emmery Edwards 80th and an own goal by Lawrenson Cilien in the 86th min.

Playing the final game of the evening, Big Players and CT Foundation played to a goalless draw. In the first game played at the Desruisseaux Playing Field, Faith United with goals from Zadel Dasouzoy 11th, Wendell Joseph 57th and John Ellen Romelias 71st min, narrowly defeated Shambala Shiloh 3 – 2.

Scoring for Shambala were Hassan Evans 32nd and Jonathan Marcellin 61st min. In the evening’s final game Darrell Francis registered the first hat trick of the tournament as Black Eagles inflicted a convincing 6 – 1 victory over Uprising. 

Francis’ goals were scored in the 35th 37th and 41st min. with the others coming from Mahvy Rismay 8th, Akid Edmund 49th and Kervele Thomas in the 75th min. Sherquain Martty pulled one back for Uprising in the 2nd min of added on time.
