Castries, Saint Lucia: The first of the Under 19 semi-final football match in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports competition took place at the Soufriere Mini Stadium in Saint Lucia on Wednesday, 30th November.
Soufriere Comprehensive advanced to the Finals of the said competition with a hard-fought 1 – 0 victory over Babonneau Secondary.
The goal penalty was scored by John Wilfred in the 8th min. of play.
The other semi-final will take place on Thursday, 1st December, between St. Mary’s College and the St. Lucia Sports Academy at the SAB Playing Field. Kick-off time is 1.00 pm.
The second semi-final match in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Under 19 football competition lived up to all the hype and expectations.
Despite the damp conditions, nevertheless, in a game worthy of a final, both teams displayed some good attacking and counter-attacking skills, and despite both missing golden opportunities, the St. Lucia Sports Academy prevailed 2 – 1 over St. Mary’s College.
They got their goals Kyle Jn. Baptiste and Michael Justine in the 45th and 67th min, respectively while Makaay Emile scored for SMC in the 54th min. In the meantime, the stage is set for the grand final between Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary and the St. Lucia Sports Academy on Monday 5th December.
Meanwhile, the semi-finals of the Boys Under 15 competition are scheduled for Friday 2nd December 2022. St. Mary’s College vs Micoud Secondary – SAB Playing Field – 1.00 pm.
Saint Lucia Sports Academy vs Soufriere Comprehensive – Soufriere Mini Stadium – 1.00 pm. Elsewhere, one match was played in the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. Island Premiere Cup on Thursday, 1st December at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort.
In the lone encounter, Dennery with a penalty from Kenvie Polius in the 68th min edged out Vieux Fort South.
Matches continued in the Saint Lucia Football Association Inc. Island Cup on Wednesday, 30th November with a double header at the Gros Islet Playing Field and one match at the Desruisseaux Playing Field.
In the first game played at Gros Islet, Canaries with a goal from Dwayne Jn. Baptiste in the 38th and La Clery with one from Mc Gyver Raymond in the 56th min played to a 1 – 1 draw. In the other game played, Gros Islet defeated Central Castries 5 – 2.
They got their goals from Raphiel Joseph, a brace in the 3rd and 69th min, and the others from Troy Greenidge 47th, Eden Charles 66th and Baggio Edward the 3rd min of added on time.
Nile Alexander and Jamal Wilfred scored for Central Castries in the 78th and 89th min respectively.
Down at the Desruisseaux Playing Field, Mabouya Valley with a hat trick from Sherwin Simon in the 55th, 72nd and 79th min defeated Vieux Fort North 3 – 1 after Lodrick Dornelly had shot them in the lead in the 9th min.
Meanwhile one match will be played in the Island Premier Cup on Thursday 1st December, with Vieux Fort South playing Dennery at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort at 7.00 pm.
