Castries, Saint Lucia: The winners of the 3rd Annual Best of the Best Lantern Competition were awarded their prizes in a small Prize Giving Ceremony on Friday, November 11 2022 at NTN/GIS Studios.
The ceremony was attended by participants, His Excellency Peter Chen, Ambassador Embassy of the Republic China (Taiwan) in Saint Lucia, Hon. Dr. Ernest Hilaire, Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information, Raymona Henry-Wynne, Executive Director and Staff of the Cultural Development Foundation.

Joy Grant, Perry Martial and Savitre Jn, Marie – “The Beauty of Nature”
Desmond Walcott Jr. and Desiree Walcott – “A Meeting with Friends”
The Ambassador’s Award was awarded to the youngest participant, Joli Christopher, with a depiction of “Something Taiwan”. Participants also received Certificates of Participation for successfully completing a four (4) week of online Training Of Trainers (TOT) Lantern Design and Construction Workshop, which was held from August 29 – September 23, 2022.
The programme was supported under the Spotlight Taiwan Project through the Ministry of Culture Taiwan. This year’s Best of the Best competition was held on October 8 2022 under the theme “Taiwan Saint Lucia Walk Together”.
The contributions of five (5) Saint Lucians will be honored at the 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐩𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭. 𝐂𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 ceremony to be held Live on Saturday, November 19th 2022 at 8:00 p.m. on MBC TV. Hosted by veteran calypsonian Ignatius “Invader” Tisin.
𝐖𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑 -Truscott “Soukou” Augustin for long and meritorious services in the areas of song writing and musical production and administration of the calypso product.
𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 – Lorna Lubrin – for long and meritorious service in the administration of the St. Lucia calypso product for having served as the President of the SLCA for most of the 80’ s and early 90’ s.
𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐄𝐑 – Ron Louis –for long and meritorious service in the area of recording and producing for many of some of our most popular calypsonians, in addition to his work in developing the music product in the village of Laborie.
𝐒𝐄𝐑𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐒/𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 – John Michel – Michel’s Electricals –for long and meritorious Service in providing infrastructure for the improvement and development of the St. Lucian musical product. Long serving sponsor of the calypso Artform.
𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐍 – Charles “Charley” Augustin – for long and meritorious service in helping develop the Saint Lucian musical product in the area of folk music.
