Castries, Saint Lucia: Helpaws asked the people to adopt the six puppies which have been adopted by the organization.
That’s a lot in and of itself, but when you consider how full the shelter already is, the fact that we have received so few adoption applications over the past month, and that we are constantly stretching our operating budget so thin as we care for so many animals, it’s a bit overwhelming.
Still, I’m glad this little man is here, safe with us and not still wandering the streets alone and in danger.
Meet Jagger. He was found by a lovely man who was dropping his son off at school. We’ve been told this poor little soul was being abused. The kind man who brought him to us said his heart broke for the puppy as he watched him limping in the rain on a busy road. He knew he couldn’t leave him, so he scooped him up and brought him to us, where he would get the love and care he deserved.
Poor Jagger has a bad case of mange and an injured leg, both of which will be treated while he’s in our care. He was very scared, but once we got him settled in, he calmly ate chicken from my hand. I have the feeling he is going to be the sweetest boy; he just needs time to decompress and know that he is safe.
I’ll never be able to wrap my head around someone intentionally hurting an animal, so to hear that Jagger, or any animal, has been abused both breaks my heart and infuriates me. But I am SO thankful for the good people on this island – people with kind hearts, compassion, and a conscience – like a man who decided that Jagger’s life has meaning and brought him to the shelter.
YOU can make a difference in the lives of TWO precious animals – the one you adopt and the one that takes its place at the rescue. Monetary donations to help with the cost of caring for these babies can be sent via e-transfer, PayPal, or Zelle to [email protected], or Venmo to @helpaws.
