Castries, Saint Lucia: Helpaws (Help Animal Welfare in Saint Lucia) is an organization that addresses the unnecessary suffering of animals in St Lucia through rescue work, and regular FREE Spay and Neuter clinics asked people to adopt the pups.
As many of you may have noticed, there’s never a dull moment at HelpAWS – we’re always on the clock. What started as a regular trip North for Charlene quickly turned into a rescue, but she, of all people, knows to always prepare for an eventful trip.
This time she spotted a floppy-eared little pup on the side of the main highway to the North of the island. For fear that he would be run over, she pulled over to try to grab him, but he made a quick escape down a hillside to his home.
She tracked him down the hill and found that he wasn’t alone, he had a brother too! The owner of the house met her there and explained that what started off as a litter of five quickly turned to two, some being run over and others dying from being attacked.
After hearing this horrifying news, we knew we had to step in and help the best that we could. So, we gave the animals some food and, with the owners blessing, loaded the pups in the car and headed back to the shelter.
Before leaving we made sure to spread the word in the area about the upcoming spay and neuter clinic. It’s important in situations like this to help with a long term solution and that means education on the importance of spaying and neutering animals to control the pet population – particularly those who don’t have the resources to take care of their animals.
Welcome Riley and Cooper, these two pups bring our shelter population to over 100, which means more mouths to feed, vaccinate, treat and take care of. We need your help now more than ever. We can’t do this without you. Donations can be sent via e-transfer, PayPa or Zelle to firstname.lastname@example.org or through Venmo to @helpaws. It doesn’t matter the amount – every bit helps. Even sharing this post makes a world of difference.
