Saint Lucia: Helpaws invites people to adopt new cute pups
Castries, Saint Lucia: Helpaws asked people to adopt the cute pups. There’s a saying “insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”
We think of this saying every day when we’re dealing with the many situations we face here on the island. Today we successfully sent two of our pups off to their forever homes! But there was little time to celebrate as we were immediately contacted to pick up some puppies at the airport. Their mom had given birth and the owner was unable to care for them all because of the expense that came along with feeding 5 extra mouths. Familiar story, right?
They were originally born a litter of 5 but two were given away before we were able to pick them up; we can only hope they went to good homes where they’re going to be well taken care of. We hope their new owners ensure they are spayed or neutered to avoid the continuous cycle of overpopulation that they were born into.
For the 3 little girls that did come back to the shelter with us, we are happy we could be there when you needed us. Now we will get them treated for parasites and, when they are healthy, spayed so that they won’t ever have to deal with the burden of carrying and birthing a litter of pups or being exposed to TVT or other diseases which they may have been prone to. No more hunger, no more bellies full of worms or bodies covered in ticks and fleas.
We know we will never completely eradicate the problem of over population on the island, but we will certainly continue to work toward improving these conditions one day at a time, one animal at a time. By hosting annual spay and neuter clinics, and by going into schools to educate today’s youth on the proper care and well being of companion animals, we hope we will see change evolve for generations to come.
If you would like to help change the lives of these precious animals, donations can be sent to donate@helpaws.com using e-transfer, Zelle or PayPal or to @helpaws using Venmo.
