Castries, Saint Lucia: Helpaws once again took to social media and invited people to be home for small pups as they are in urgent need of residence.

Helpaws (Help Animal Welfare in St Lucia) is an organization that addresses the unnecessary suffering of animals in Saint Lucia through rescue work and regular FREE Spay and Neuter clinics.

Although we may not be able to talk with animals, there’s always a story to be told when they arrive at the shelter. Their protruding hip bones tell us they went hungry more often than not. Their itchy, scabbed skin and untreated wounds are evidence of life out in the elements without shelter or anyone to care for them.

Their eyes, their eyes tell their story most vividly, conveying the exhaustion, fear, and distrust that comes from having to fight for survival at such a very young age.

Their mum was a stray that passed away, leaving these three little sweethearts all alone in the world. Our hearts break for the momma that most likely gave everything she could to nurture and protect her babies. The animal instinct to care for one’s young is innate, even if mum herself is starving. Life is so unfair to these animals with so many elements working against them, from climate to disease; it’s not an easy road to survival.

These tragic stories of animals that didn’t ask to be born into these conditions, who fight so hard to survive, are what keep us going day after day. It fuels our determination to make lasting change, one animal at a time, so that future generations of animals don’t have to repeat the same horrible cycle.

These three little babies are now safe at the shelter where they can begin to write the next chapter of their life story. We estimate these two boys and one girl to be about 9 weeks old. They have been treated for fleas, ticks and worms, fed a nice warm meal, and had some much needed rest in what is probably the first safe place they’ve ever been.

Every story needs a happy ending, and these three are on their way to their happily ever after. Donations to help offset the cost of their care can be sent via e-transfer, Zelle and PayPal to donate@helpaws.com, or to @helpaws using Venmo. Every dollar donated goes toward saving the lives of animals in St. Lucia!
