Saint Lucia: Gros Islet U19 Team 1 advances into finals of Sandals 50 over Cup

Gros Islet of Saint Lucia batting first in a game reduced to 41 overs, a side made 273 for 9 in their allotted overs, with captain Tarrique Edward fresh from a CWI Under 19 training camp top scoring with a fine half-century

Castries, Saint Lucia: The Gros Islet Under 19 Team # 1 advances into the Grand Finals of the Saint Lucia National Cricket Association/Sandals 50 Over Cup after completing a handsome 209-run victory over fellow semi-finalist; Mon Repos Under 19.

Gros Islet of Saint Lucia batting first in a game reduced to 41 overs, a side made 273 for 9 in their allotted overs, with captain Tarrique Edward fresh from a CWI Under 19 training camp top scoring with a fine half-century.

Tarrique Edward of Saint Lucia made a good-looking 65 with two fours and six sixes, Ryan Goodman was 29, Royce Paul was 28, Lee John was 24, Khan Elcock was 18, Leon Alexander was 17 not out, Johnathan Daniel was 15, and Tori Hippolyte was 14.

The wicket takers for Mon Repos were; Alexus Charles with 2 for 20 in 4 overs, Shawnil Edward with 2 for 28 in 9 overs, Seth Reneau with 2 for 58 in 9 overs and one wicket each to Cody Fontinelle, Bernard Calixte and Rowan James.

In reply, the Mon Repos Under 19 team was bowled out for 64 in 16.3 overs, with Kamanie Laure making 29 and Alexus Charles 10.

Doing the damage with the ball for Gros Islet was Off spinners; Royce Paul with outstanding figures of 5 for 6 in 4.3 overs and Lee John 4 for 15 in 5 overs. Good support also came from Jeandell Cyril with 1 for 9 in 3 overs.

THE GROS ISLET UNDER-19 CRICKET TEAM OF SAINT LUCIA WILL NOW PLAY CENTRAL CASTRIES IN THE TOURNAMENT’S GRAND FINALS SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 12, FROM 9:30 AM AT THE GROS ISLET PLAYING FIELD.

Meanwhile, the Gros Islet Under 19 cricket Team # 2 went down to Mabouya Valley Under 19 in the finals of the Plate Division by 111 runs on March 11 at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

Mabouya Valley, batting first after winning the toss and electing to bat, scored 271 for 8 in 34 overs. Nean Deterville led the batting with a half-century, making 62, Cleyanus Jules 29, Brent Edward 27, Armani Agdomar 25 and Kurlan Severin 24 not out.

Bowling for Gros Islet 2, Renee Jones and Selena Ross with two wickets each, Xhan Riviere, Shealawn Daniel and Neil Poyotte had one wicket each.

In reply, Gros Islet 2 were dismissed for 160 in 33 overs, with the captain, Isaiah Jones, top scoring with 35, Royston Fannis 18, Kaylum Thomas 16, Jaheem Simeon 13, Shealawn Daniel 11 and 10 each to Neil Poyotte and Renee Jones. Bowling for Mabouya, Armani Agdomar 3 wickets and 2 wickets each to Kurlan Severin, Brent Edward and Mc Wayne Vidal.

RESULT: MABOUYA VALLEY OF SAINT LUCIA UNDER 19 DEFEATED GROS ISLET UNDER 19 TEAM 2 BY 111 RUNS.
