Castries, Saint Lucia: The Saint Lucia National Cricket Association/ Sandals Under 19 Cup continued on Sunday, February 19 with Gros Islet Under 19 completing a comfortable 104 run victory over Choiseul Under 19 at the Piaye Playing Field.
Gros Islet Under 19 batting first, in a game reduced to 37 overs a side, due to a late start was dismissed for 152 in 36.2 overs, with captain Khan Elcock top scoring with 55 inclusive of 7 fours, Bolton Sayers 23, Leon Alexander 16 not out and Royce Paul 11.
The wicket takers for the Choiseul Under 19’s were; Stephan Theophane, 4 for 35 in 6.2 overs, Denzie Jn Paul, 2 for 20 in 5 overs and one wicket each to Sky Lafeuille, Jeanille Williams, Jamal Lawrence and Germian Thomas.
In reply, the Gros Islet Under 19’s, led by off spinner; LEE JOHN with a five wicket haul, dismissed Choiseul Under 19 for 48 in 17.3 overs, with Shaquan Mitchel 22, the only batsman to reach double figures.
The wicket takers for the Gros Islet boys were; Lee John with impressive figures of 5 for 23 in 8 overs, Darvin Forde with 3 for 22 in 6 overs and 1 wicket each to Jeandell Cyril (1 for 3 in 3 overs) and Leon Alexander 1 for 0 in 0.3 overs).
RESULT: GROS ISLET UNDER 19 TEAM #1 WON OVER CHOISEUL UNDER 19 BY 104 RUNS.
The Saturday morning Northern Cluster Grassroots Cricket Development Program continued on February 18, 2023 with yet another exciting and intense session.
The programme took the following format:
* Prayers/Welcome
* Warm up activities
* Catching/Fielding drills and exercises
* Batting drills
* Younger participants ages 11 years and below engaged in fielding drills( high catches with hard ball)
* Also running between the wickets with batting pads.
The coaches who facilitated the training session were Malika Edward and Allian Asby.
